It’s not often that you meet people like my old friend, Sean Kupisz. It has been ages since anyone heard him and his blessed bass. This week we worked on a recording of a song I wrote two years ago about the birds in my courtyard on a sunny rainy day in NYC. It’s called “Confusingly Beautiful” or “Sun & Rain”…not quite sure yet.
Now I’m back in the city after an adventurous road trip to visit him with my son, I’m feeling inspired to keep working on original music. And certainly want to work through the recording of this song with Seany.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around this instrument. It's going to be a while... :P I'm also still trying to find the right EQ and tuning is always particularly challenging with this beast.
Anyway, I just wanted to show how inspired I am by beautiful music always, especially since taking virtual groups lessons with my friend and colleague, Andrés Rotmistrovsky. I feel like a kid with a new toy!!
This song by Seal is one of my favorite memories from the 90s. And it is something we worked on last week in the Chord Melody class. The Quarantine Course was also amazing. (OH, it's in Spanish, in case you are curious!)

A wonderful organization called Amplify LatinX hosted a truly inspirational online celebration. I had the honor of kicking it off with a song to send off the 10 female honorees, as we uplifted them, highlighting the various things that they are doing in their communities to help other women.
I sang a song from the Afro-Brazilian tradition called “É D’Oxum.” I’ve never been a part of an event like this. It made me feel proud of women everywhere. OLE!

I'm so happy to say that this project that started as a little seed in my brain over 15 years ago is finally making taking off! (You can learn more by clicking on #trashbata in my navigation menu.) And the most important step, the creation of the actual dress, is finally becoming a reality. Talented costume designer, Sally Lesser, and I have had to working through lots of questions, like:
* What kind of trash would work?
* Does it come off eventually during the performance?
* Are there layers to the dress?
